That’s right, we have reached the quarter way mark! The last 3 weeks have been a race to make up for time that we lost while we were sick in Erwin. We have gone 300 miles in that time and as I write this we are at mile 631. We are taking a well deserved rest day in Pearisburg, VA.

One of my favorite parts of the last section of trail was the Grayson Highlands where wild ponies live.

We had another moment of extreme coincidence when taking a night in a small town called Marion. We were walking to dinner when an RV passed by and someone yelled out at us. The RV turned around and pulled up next to us. It was Dave Carey and family! We caught up for a bit and they bestowed upon us some trail magic in the form of cold beer

Recently Andrew was able to visit with Riley, and he brought along some extra gear that was have been waiting to swap out. Among the haul was new shoes, a new lighter tent, and lighter backpacks! We also lightened our load considerably by ditching some gear only needed in colder weather.

We look forward to testing our new gear and hiking some big miles in the next few weeks. We hope to be in Pennsylvania in a little over a month from now. We are missing everyone from home and have made a few prank calls to REI on our day off. (Ask Rob if his refrigerator is running).

All in all things are going quite well, blisters and aching feet aside, and we are excitedly getting closer to our home state!
